points vary by zone (the values shown are for a 60 km/h urban zone). This tool does not access your real record – check

How the demerit system works
- Everyone starts on 0 points. Each offence adds 1 to 6 points once the fine is paid or an enforcement order is issued.
- A full licence is suspended at more than 15 points. A learner’s licence is suspended at more than 6.
- Over the limit means 3 months suspension for every point above the threshold (e.g. 17 points = 6 months).
- Points drop by 1 every 3 months of offence-free driving, until you reach zero.
- Your licence can be suspended twice. A third time and it is cancelled – you start again with a learner’s licence.
