Searchis is a South African information site that helps ordinary people understand the money side of everyday life: what jobs pay, how the minimum wage works, what government grants and increases are worth, what things cost, and how to deal with the practical admin that comes with earning, working and running a household in South Africa.
We started Searchis because so much of the information South Africans search for every day, like what a nurse or a security guard earns, what the latest minimum wage is, or how to work out take-home pay, is either out of date, vague, or buried in official documents that are hard to read. Our job is to turn that into clear, accurate, up-to-date answers you can actually use.
What we cover
Searchis is organised around the things South Africans search for most:

How we work
We take accuracy seriously, because people make real decisions based on what they read here. Our standards are simple:
- We use primary sources. Wherever possible our figures come straight from official sources such as the Department of Employment and Labour, the DPSA, SARS, PSIRA, bargaining councils and the Government Gazette. We cite them so you can check for yourself.
- We label estimates clearly. Where there is no single official figure, such as market salaries that vary by employer, we say so and give a sensible range rather than a false exact number.
- We keep it current. South African wages, tax tables and grant amounts change on fixed cycles each year. We update our guides as new figures are gazetted, and we show a “last updated” date on our pages.
- We write for real people. We answer the question first, in plain South African English, and explain the jargon.
